Definition

  1. To be refreshingly thrilled.
  2. To bring new life to.

As I mentioned before I am training for a 5K race with my family.  I was apprehensive  at first, but I am now embracing the training and find it exhilarating.  The weather is cooperating, I am past the initial soreness and it is just becoming fun.  My husband runs with me and it is one more activity we share.

The word of the day value

Definition

The quality (positive or negative) that renders something desirable or valuable

What has happened to the values in this country?  What we considered important not that long are not in vogue now.  We are more rude, self centered and out for ourselves.  We are not not as respectful to each other, hard work is less important, and we seem to feel entitled to what we want.  We are going in the wrong direction.  We need to look at where we are going and decide if this is the path we want to be on.

The word of the day listen

Definition

  1. To pay attention to a sound, to note.
  2. To accept or obey oral instruction.
  3. To hear (something), to pay attention to something said.

It appears that our elected leaders do not listen to us.  Poll after poll shows the American people do not want the health care bill passed and yet there seems to be a feeling in the current administration and the Congress are going to push this  whether we want it or not.  There is always the elections upcoming in November.

The word of the day accomplishment

Definition

  1. The act of accomplishing; entire performance; completion; fulfillment; as, the of an enterprise, of a prophecy, etc.
  2. That which completes, perfects, or equips thoroughly; acquirement; attainment; that which constitutes excellence of mind, or elegance of manners, acquired by education or training.

As I mentioned before I am going to run a 5K race with my family in a few months.  It was nice this weekend and we did a family run.  My husband, sister and my daughter were all out there.  They let me set the pace and to my surprise I didn’t have any trouble with the distance.  I was apprehensive about it, but it turned out to be nothing.  A lot of that was the support from my family.  Knowing that I can cover the distance I will now work on improving my performance.  This also reminds me how close we are as a family and how much family support in any endeavor makes a difference.

The word of the day lusk

Definition

a lazy or slothful person

I saw this word on a news show the other day and I had to look it up.  It is amazing how many words in the English language describe lazy people.  It seems as though there are so many lazy people we keep coming up with different ways to describe people with a lack of work ethic or those who want something for nothing.  It appears that maybe the reason for this is that as a society we indirectly encourage it.

Reconciliation

The word of the day Reconciliation

Definition

Reconciliation is a legislative process in the United States Senate intended to allow consideration of a contentious budget bill without the threat of filibuster. Introduced in 1974, reconciliation limits debate and amendment, and therefore favors the majority party. Reconciliation also exists in the United States House of Representatives, but because the House regularly passes rules that constrain debate and amendment, the process has had a less significant impact on that body.

There is talk that the health care with the so called “Nuclear Option”. This is a blatant attempt to circumvent the opposition to this bill by the American people. Poll after Poll shows the American people do not not want this. At a time when the government is increasing the debt at an alarming rate, it appears the only option for us is to vote these irresponsible people out of office in November.

The word of the day running

Definition

The activity of running as a form of exercise or as a sport

My sister is an avid runner and my daughter has been involved in it as well. They have persuaded me to run in a 5K race in June. It will be a family affair as my husband and my sister’s husband will also be running. I run on a treadmill 5 days a week for exercise, but it is not the same as outdoor running. I have time to prepare and I am looking forward to it, but I am a little apprehensive. My husband and my sisters husband are also runners so it should be interesting.

The word of the day loyality

Definition

  1. the state of being loyal; fidelity
  2. faithfulness or devotion to some person, cause or nation

While working at the office of one of our clients yesterday, I was engaged in a conversation about one of their employees who just walked out on them a few days before.  This young lady was hired on the recommendation of friend.  While she had no experience in the field they trained her and let her go to school on their time and she became proficient in her job.  Instead of repaying the company for their faith in her she was looking for another job after she graduated and left without notice.  It appears that loyalty to those who help you is outweighed by the dollar.  This is a sad commentary on the values of many in our country.

The word of the day meeting

Definition

  1. An agreed upon event which happens at a specified time and place.
  2. A gathering among business people to discuss their business.

Today is the health care meeting with the President.  I’d like to see a productive meeting with real proposals to reform health care.  What I don’t want see is more big government or taxes.  While I am a Democrat, I don’t support more taxes or big government.  I would like more oversight on the health care industry, but we have the best health care in the world and I am not in favor of lowering the quality of care I receive.

The word of the day forgive

Definition

To pardon, to waive any negative feeling or desire for punishment

Yesterday I ran into an old friend who I had not seen for a number of years.  At one time we were very close.  We had a rather nasty falling out and I wanted nothing to do with her.  For a very long time what she did ate away at me.  I finally got over it, but seeing her again brought those memories back.  I could feel the animosity welling up again.  She came over and apologized and ask that I forgive her.  This caught me off guard and I just looked at her.  She wasn’t asking to friends again, but she didn’t want to be at odds anymore.  I did forgive her as I was taught to forgive.  I don’t know if we could ever be friends again but I know I did the right thing.  Forgiveness is the first step in healing the spirit.
