Wordpress Blog How To's

Using the Podcast plugin to upload video or audio files

Uploading a audio or video file in your blog post involves using the add media icons in the write post function. This will upload the file to your uploads area. From there you use the Podcast function to place the audio or video file into your post.

Using the Search Engine Optimization feature in your blog

Using the SEO (Search Engine Optimization) feature of your Wordpress blog is simple. When writing a post, before you publish it, scroll down to the bottom of the write page. At the very bottom you will see the SEO feature. You can change the title and add a description or more keywords.

When doing search engine optimization make the description just that. Describe what the page is about. Don't over do the keywords. With proper usage you can get your page to show up in the search engines.

When email blogging to your wordpress blog you can control when the post will appear by putting one of the following in the body of your message. This is the same as putting a Post Timestamp section when writing a post.

    delay:1m - 1 minute
    delay:1d2h4m - 1 day 2 hours 4m

Have fun with your mobile blogging!

Password Protect a Post in Your Blog

How to Make Your Blog Popular

Many people out there have blogs, or have had one and quit because they couldn't seem to attract the traffic volume they wanted. Here we will arm you with some tips on how to make your blog popular, so that you can achieve the results you want.

1.) Content - First and foremost, any tips site on blogs will tell you that you must have useful or informative content. Your blog content is the backbone of your success and must be relevant. If you post content in your blog that is uninteresting or in no way useful, readers will not come back. When folks surf the net, they generally are doing one of two things, looking for entertainment, or trying to find information on something. Shopping online is big, but the number of entertainment and information searches seem to be higher according to Search Engine Watch. Providing useful information is also what gets readers to RSS subscribe to your blog. The more RSS subscribers you have, the more popular your blog.

2.) Post Often - Posting once or twice a week won't cut it. In order to keep the search engine crawlers coming back to your blog you should post at least once a day.

3.) React quickly - When readers leave you comments on your posts, do not delay in getting back to them. No one likes to be kept waiting. If you take too long to answer you may find that they're no longer interested.

4.) Linking With Others - One of the easiest and fastest ways to drive traffic to your blog is to link with other bloggers and forums. Just remember, one of your objectives as a blogger is to become considered an authority on your blog subject, so keep this in mind when you participate in forums and other blogs. Do not post useless content on other blogs just so you can link to it. That will only annoy that blog owner and their readers.

How To Find Your MyPTSMail Blog

We've had some folks asking us how do they go directly to their personal blog. The answer is rather simple. Everyone who has selected a blog as their bonus item should be able to go directly to their personal blog by typing: www.myptsmail.com/yourusername/blog into the address bar at the top of your browser. For example, if your User ID is batman6, then you should be able to type: www.myptsmail.com/batman6/blog into the browser and arrive at your blog. From that point, you just click on the "Login" link and enter your MyPTSMail User ID and password.

Pages

What if you have something you want to post on your blog but you don't want it to change or scroll down the list? Its as easy to do as falling off a log with our blogs at PTS.

Just log in to your site, go to write, but instead of write post, click on write page. Now the content you publish will exist on a separate page instead of on your main posting page. You can still add pictures and control how it is displayed. the manner in which these pages are accessed or shown depends on the theme of the blog, some show them as clickable links in a sidebar and some show as tabs on the side or top of the main page. A perfect example is the About page accessed through the link under pages on this blog page. So maybe you want to put family pictures on a page, or use it like a website it is all up to you.

Pictures in The Blog

A picture is truly worth a thousand words. Actually, it's better, because these days who wants to read a thousand words? When someone comes to your blog you have by most accounts a maximum of 15 seconds to grab their attention or "hook" them or they are gone. A picture conveys so much information in a glance that it can accomplish more than anything else in the blog alone. Now I am not saying you just need pictures or a lot of pictures. The right picture can get people to commit more than that 15 seconds and read the title again, read some of the content and truly invest their attention in your post.

Typically there are two ways to include your picture in your post. You can "point" to another location where the picture actually resides by means of a URL. This is nothing more than an address and you see them all the time (something like this: http://www.myptsmail.com/blog/pictures/vacationbeach ) That means it is actually hosted or saved on another computer and when you click on the link you are telling it to "go look here". The other way is to save the picture on your computer along with your other blog software/info. Typically you simply "upload" or save the image or picture into the correct location so your blog knows where it will be. Don't go hog wild just yet , though. You do need to put some time and thought into this process. With the explosion of digital cameras pictures have gotten very large with very high resolutions. Great right? Maybe not so much. Usually there is a limit to how large the picture file can be. The higher the resolution, the larger the file, and there are usually limits to how big the file can be. Also, if it takes too long to load, your 15 seconds are gone and bye bye so is your audience. Be sparing with your pictures, choose them carefully, make them good, well focused, and pertinent to your subject. Think of pictures like spices on good food, it should complement and enhance, not overshadow. Try it and see how much pictures can add to your posts.
